Toward the end of October in 2013, I was hiking around String Lake in Grand Teton National Park. There was an early snowfall that year around 6” covered the area. As I hiked around the lake, I noticed fresh wolf tracks in the snow. I decided to follow them. Not long after I started to hear a wolf howling, it was close, and hard to tell exactly where it was coming from. I stopped to see if I could maybe catch a glimpse of the wolf or try to pinpoint where the howling was coming from. It just so happens that where I stopped, turned out to be the place where I captured Misty Tetons. This photo turned out to be one of my favorites that I have taken.
The mood that the snow, a calm morning, and the mystery of a wolf helped capture the perfect image. While I never did see the wolf, I will always be grateful for the mood and atmosphere it created that morning.
