Sage Runners
The horse that has come to symbolize the American West evolved 54 million years ago on this continent, only to disappear about 8,000 years ago. At some point during the Ice Age, the horse migrated over the Bering land bridge into Asia and eventually to Europe, where the Spanish tamed them and brought them back to the Americas during the 1600’s. By the 1700’s, the Native Americans living on the plains and in the mountains had mastered the skills needed to become mobile on these magnificent animals, creating the horse culture that we associate them with.
